Gauri Kalyana Vaibhogame- The divine wedding of Shiva Parvati.

Image
The auspicious time for the wedding was near, Garga asked Śailarāja to bring Śiva to His palace for the marriage. Himavān's face beamed with joy, He sent Brāhmaṇas and some of His companions to fetch Śiva from His apartment. The mountains and Brāhmaṇas with auspicious items in their grasp blissfully went to the place where Mahādeva stayed, the sound of the Vedic hymns, instruments, songs and dances cheerfully rose there. On hearing the chants and songs, Śiva Gaṇas rejoiced and said "O here come the Brāhmaṇas to take Śiva! The favourable hour for marriage ceremonies has come." Everyone yelled "Jaya! Jaya!"  Śiva was very happy as he could see Pārvatī again but kept it inside His mind and kept His face calm. Then the ceremonial anointment was performed to Mahādeva and He was decorated with fine clothes and jewels.  With the Lord in the front everyone entered Himavān's palace. The musicians sang songs and ladies danced. Conches were blown, drums were beaten an...

The letter of betrothal was written by Garga, the family priest of Himavān. He sent it to Śiva along with the articles of reverence through his kinsmen. Those people showed up at Kailāsa and gave over the letter to Śiva, applied saffron Tilaka on his forehead and returned to Himavān. On seeing them, he was delighted. Brāhmaṇa women, who knew all the tradition and customs, started performing auspicious rites to Pārvatī. The entire city was cleaned and brightened. Plantain trees and mango leaves were attached to every door of Auṣadhiprāsta. Each house was enriched with flowers and lights, colourful rangolis were drawn in front. Himavata called Viśvakarma, the architect of gods and requested him to build a large and spacious maṇḍapa.  There were sculptures of peacocks, lions, elephants, women holding lights, dancing ladies, gatekeepers, etc. Even specialists couldn't recognize what is sculpture and what is real. A magnificent idol of goddess Mahālakṣmī was placed at the main entrance,...

Gauri Kalyana Vaibhogame- Shiva's play.

Just as King Himavān left the palace to take bath in the Ganges for worshipping lord Nārāyaṇa, an enchanting voice, singing sweet songs was heard by everyone. Pārvatī, by hearing the voice figured out who the singer is, she emerged from her room to see him, Menakā joined her halfway. They saw an attractive young man dancing excellently by playing his drums. He was clad in red and held Śṛṅgi and Ḍamaru in both of his hands. He was no ordinary dancer but Naṭarāja himself. Śiva saw Pārvatī and smiled innocently. Pārvatī was unable to stop looking at him. A sweet smile appeared on her face. The blessed residents of Auṣadhiprāsta, without any efforts, had the vision of the dance of Naṭarāja, to behold which, Patañjali and Vyāgrapādar had to perform severe penance. All the credits go to Umā alone. Menakā was very delighted by the dance and gifted various gems and pearls to the dancer, but he refused to accept it and requested for Pārvatī's hand instead. After hearing this, Menā was stunn...
