The Ideal Couple: PART-3

Image
Today we will learn more about the Līlās of Sītā and Rāma in Their Vanavāsa. As we have already seen, Sītā fully supported Rāma in eradicating demons as She was His co-pursuer of Dharma. Now we will explore this in detail and clear some misconceptions about Sītā. After spending ten years of Their exile, Sītā, Rāma and Lakshmana settled in Panchavatī at the suggestion of Sage Agastya. Lakshmana built a lovely hermitage which was greatly admired by Rāma. Many peaceful days passed. Sītā loved Panchavatī and enjoyed Her stay. She never stopped serving Her Lord and  always spoke encouraging words to Him. Rāma always made Sītā happy. He was an extremely loyal and monogamous Husband. He politely rejected Sūrpanakhā's advances. This doesn't make Rāma a bad person. Just like women's choice and approval matter, even men's consent matters. His refusal of Sūrpanakhā's proposal is totally right. Let it be known that Lakshmana chopping Sūrpanakhā's nose and ears is NOT a sign...

Today we will explore the beautiful love between Sītā and Rāma during Their exile. There are many incidents from the Vanavāsa which will help us understand the lovely relationship between Rāma and Ramā. Sītā was Rāghava's self. Her dedication and firmness impressed Dasharatha, Kaushalyā, Sumitrā, Sage Vasishta and many others. The people even suggested to crown Sītā as the Queen and live under Her rule on behalf of Rāma. But for Jānakī, kingdoms and riches didn't matter. She assured Kaushalyā that She would remain ever devoted to Rāma and would always consider Him as Her God. She was always keen on being with Rāma even though her loved ones were not ready to let Her go. So Sītā accompanied Her Lord to the forest and followed Him unswervingly. She prayed to the rivers Gangā and Yamunā and also to the vast Banyan tree for the welfare of Her Husband and Brother-in-law. Rāma, on His part, helped His beloved to ascend the boat made by Lakshmana whenever They had to cross a river. Sī...

We already know how Sītā and Rāma met in Mithilā. Tulsīdas's Srī Rāmcharitmānas and Kambar's Rāmāvatāram describe the first meeting in great detail. Those who want to read the retelling of the first meeting already written as a part of the Vivāha Panchamī series can read it here: https://hariharasarvam.blogspot.com/2020/12/the-first-meeting.html It's evident that Sītā and Rāma fell deeply in love with each other right from the moment Their lotus eyes met. For Rāma, nobody was as lovely and virtuous as Sītā. He felt that He had run out of similes to praise Sītā. Jānakī's love was so deep that She admired at the fortune of the moon for sharing its name with Rāma. She also prayed to Devī Umā to make Rāma victorious. The moment Rāghava broke the bow was the happiest moment of both Sītā and Rāma.  At the end of Bāla Kānda, Vālmīki beautifully describes the love of Sītā and Rāmachandra who spent many happy seasons in each other's company. "With His heart fixed on Sīt...
