Happy Sita Navami to all! May Jānakī, the beloved Daughter of Janaka and the dear Wife of Rāma bless us all!
I was contemplating over what I like the most about Sītā, I just cannot pick one. Everything about Mā Sītā is divine and beautiful.
Shall I talk about Mā Sītā’s beauty?
Ahh! What to speak of Śrīmatī Sītā Devī’s unparalleled beauty? She was always decorated with a smile of pure love for Rāma and Her beautiful face was as splendid as millions of moon. Her teeth were like rows of pearls and forehead decorated with red sindūr. It is many women’s desire to look as beautiful as Her but it is impossible to match that divine beauty!
As Tulasīdās ji wrote, Dekhi Siyā sobhā sukh pāva : ‘Seeing Sītā, Rāma was delighted. It seemed to Him as if Lord Brahmā had presented the whole world’s beauty before His eyes’.
Or shall I talk about her love for Shrī Rāma?Their love is the basis of many stories that have found their way through the pages of history and into the heart of millions of devotees. However, we know Rāma’s love for Sītā but what about Sītā’s love for Rāma? No woman can love her husband to such an extent as Sītā loves Rāma. Her heart and breath belonged only to Him and no one else. Her love indeed made a deep impact on Śri Rāma. I would like to quote a verse from Rāmāyaṇa
वाहि वात यतः कन्या ताम् स्पृष्ट्वा माम् अपि स्पृश |
त्वयि मे गात्र संस्पर्शः चन्द्रे दृष्टि समागमः || ६-५-६
"Oh, wind! Flow from the side of my beloved. Touch her and touch me too. It is through you that I get a contact of her limbs. It is through moon that I get a contact of her eyes." Yuddha kanda, chapter 5, verse 6.
What about the ideal Gṛhiṇī she is? Well, We all are aware of the sacrifices made by Mā Sītā in order to destroy Lankādhipati’s ego. She is the silent pillar of Rāmāyaṇa. As a loyal wife, She was ready to leave all the luxuries willingly and accompany Her beloved in the Vanvās. Being the Wife of Maryādā Purushottam Śrī Rāmachandra and the Queen of Ayodhyā, She always made sure to keep the Maryādā of her family to a great level and there is nothing wrong in saying that She is the Maryādā in Maryādā Purushottam. Now tell me, how many are ready to make such sacrifices in this generation? A very few of them. To this reason, I bow down to such a great icon who can sacrifice anything without a second thought in order to maintain the dignity of Her family and love for Her beloved, also for the dutiful Queen that She is! I offer my sincere obeisance to her.
While we know Her as the embodiment of innocence, let’s not forget that she is Mahalakṣmī in her real form. Regarding the controversies on Her exile, I just want to say that there is nothing here to sympathise because if She wished She could have slain Rāvaṇa the moment he abducted Her but She did not and I will not mention why because that is a different story. Besides these, I want everyone to look up to Her and derive their inspiration as to how a woman should be. Devī Sītā is indeed the ideal example of a woman and possesses all the good qualities that a traditional Indian woman is expected to possess. She was the ideal Daughter to her parents, ideal Wife to her husband, Rāma, and the ideal Mother to her twins, Luv and Kush. She had to undergo a lot of trials and tribulations in Her life but Her courage, chastity and adherence to Dharma made her emerge as the ultimate winner. No matter what ordeal She had to go through, not even once She blamed her fate and in fact, She accepted whatever came in Her life with utmost happiness and a beautiful smile She wears as a decoration on her face. Instead of blaming our fate, we too like Mā Sītā, should accept whatever life throws at us and always find a way to smile. She is the Shrestha Nāri and I can go on talking about Her for years and still I won’t be satisfied so I will end it here.Bhūmer-Duhitaram Vidyām Namāmi Prakrtim Shivām Paulastya-Aishvarya-Samhatrīm Bhakta-Abhīssttām
Meaning: I Salute You, You are the Daughter of the Earth and the embodiment of Knowledge; You are the Auspicious Prakriti. I Salute You, You are the destroyer of the Power and Supremacy of oppressors like Ravana, and at the same time fulfiller of the wishes of the Devotees; You are an embodiment of Saraswati.
Jai SiyāRām! 🙏🏻🌸
Yours, Shyāmasundari Dāsi
