Thiruvempavai- 6

"Oh deer-like maiden! You told yesterday that tomorrow morning it is you who will wake us up, where did the word go without shame? Is it not dawn yet? Please open your mouth. We have come singing about Him, whom those in Heaven, earth and other worlds do not know, He who has come to be with us. We are singing about those beautiful feet which are embellished by tinkling anklets. Oh girl, didn't your heart melt on hearing His glories? It only suits you. Come sing with us the glories of our King, Śiva."
Here, this girl is called as deer which has two meanings. One is as beautiful as deer and another one is as poor sighted as deer since she didn't see her friends coming to her house. The last day when all the friends were planning on waking up early and going to Temple to perform the fast, this girl said that nobody needs to draw close to her home to awaken her since she will be the first to wake up and will go to everybody's home to awaken them. However today she was still asleep when all her friends had come to her house to take her with them. Mānikkavāsagar again portrays how the Lord, who is not known to anyone has come to us to be with us and love us. Mānikkavāsagar loves and frequently depicts how the Lord of three worlds has come to accept his devotees because Mānikkavāsagar has experienced it. We know how the Lord disguised as Guru waited for Mānikkavāsagar under a tree. The friends tell the girl that her heart is made out of stone or iron because she is still sleeping on hearing the wonders of the Lotus feet of Mahādeva. They also tell her that that no one but she can be sleeping even on hearing the names and wonders Śiva for the friends cannot be so stone-hearted to not melt on hearing about Him, we've already read on how a devotee shed tears and fell unconscious.
We can find this relatable, not only this but every Pasuram. We often tell that we'll serve the Lord from tomorrow, we'll go to temple everyday from tomorrow and so on. However when tomorrow comes our statement vanishes. Just like the girl our heart doesn't want to drink the nectar of Śiva's glories. We are attached to material things like sleep, delicious food etc. Mānikkavāsagar asks us to wake up from all these bondage and love Mahādeva.
Namaḥ Pārvatīpataye Hara Hara Mahādeva!
Hara! Hara!
Yours,
Śivapādahṛdaya.
