The friends: "Oh young lady, whose teeth is identical to pearls!! You would wake up before us and talk nectar like sweet words with the heart filled with love that "He is our father, He is the source of our happiness, and he is nectar in person!" But now you are not even getting up. Come and open the doors!"
The girl on the bed: "My dear friends devoted to Śiva, I fell asleep unknowingly. For that, do you have to speak harshly to me? You are all old devotees of the Lord and contain all the 10 characteristics of His pure devotees. Like you, I have no experience in this fast. Likewise, I am a new devotee. Is it wrong if you correct me and take me to the right path?"
The friends: "Oh dear, don't we know your love? Won't the people with pure heart and mind sing about our Śiva? We need all this. Come with us!
The friends go to the following house to take another companion with them. However, even she is asleep. So they wake her up by telling how cheerfully she used to sing about the Lord by calling Him her father, as bliss personified and as the sweetest Lord but, this morning she's not in any chance waking up. After hearing all this the girl on bed wakes up and asks forgiveness from the friends for falling asleep for a long time unknowingly. She asks the friends who are well known to the fast to guide her since she is observing the Mārghazhi fast for the first time and doesn't know much about it. She calls her friends containing all the 10 attributes of devotees, such as reciting the names of Śiva and Pancākṣara, applying Bhasma, wearing Rudrākṣa and so on. The next few lines of the Pāsuram can be interpreted in two ways,
a) The friends tell the girl that they are well aware of her devotion towards the Lord. One whose mind is clear and pure will sing about Śiva instead of wasting their time in sleeping and other pointless things. Sarcastically the friends tell that they deserved all this (waste of time) and go to the next taking the girl with them.
b) The friends tell the girl that they are very much aware of how pure the girl's devotion to the Lord is. Only people with a good mind can sing about Śiva. Every one of them wants to embrace great characteristics and immerse themselves in the nectar of Śiva's glories.
May Śrī Pārvatīpati be appeased!
Hara! Hara!
Yours,
Śivapādahṛdaya.
